A long weekend at Lower Arthur’s, with our two Dalmatians in tow!
We had the pleasure of staying at Lower Arthur’s in April 2024, and I can honestly say is the most luxurious holiday cottage we’ve stayed at in the UK, and what makes it even better? It’s dog friendly. Not just dog tolerant like a lot of other holiday cottages end up being, but genuinely designed to be dog friendly. As an owner of two somewhat spirited dalmatians, this is an important distinction. The garden is a decent size and fully secure, there is a dog sink with warm water outside for muddy paws, a huge jar of gravy bones in the hallway (much to Dexter’s greedy delight), practical downstairs flooring, and a host of fantastic places to walk dogs right on the doorstep.
As an interiors lover (borderline addict), believe me when I say this place is absolutely stunning both inside and out, it’s comfortable and stylish at the same time, and everything has been completed to a really high standard. I’m now wondering how I’ve coped all my life without strip lighting in my wardrobe, up the stairs or under my shelves and kitchen worktops. Luckily for me my husband is an electrician, so unluckily for him installing this is now firmly on his to-do list! It was just the two of us and the lads aka Dexter and Harry on this trip, but the cottage would have been perfect for a group stay as it comfortably fits up to seven, and is extremely well equipped to ensure you have everything you need for the best trip. The attention to detail really is second to none.
As soon as we arrived, we popped out on foot for supplies in the form of wine and deli products! The village of Greenfield is lovely with everything we wanted from our trip - pubs, coffee shops, a wine shop (I wholeheartedly recommend the Chateau La Claymore), farm shop (don’t get me started on how good the pork pie was!), a supermarket, and even a Chinese takeaway.
Despite it being a chilly start to the weekend, we were straight in the hot tub and the robes and towels provided are without a doubt the softest I’ve ever touched. The festoon lights and the firepit create such a lovely ambience and they even have plastic champagne glasses for use in the hot tub. The bedding was like sleeping on a cloud too, I like a supportive mattress, and this did not disappoint.
In terms of walks we were spoilt for choice; on our second day we did a long dog walk alongside the canals via the picturesque village of Uppermill. On our final morning, we got up early to visit Dovestone Resevoir, we’d been warned it gets very busy up there but as it was a chilly and misty start to the day we were lucky and it was relatively quiet.
All in all, it really was a really enjoyable trip with our two spotty family members in tow.
